Dr. Marcelo Cetkovich Bakmas completed his studies at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires in 1982, in the same university he earned his graduate Psychiatrist in 1987, which performed in the unit of Hospital Jose T Borda . His contact with the Mental Health and Neurosciences started much earlier because, as a medical student, he joined the Laboratory of Neurosciences at the Borda Hospital. There he studied normal and pathological brain anatomy with his teacher, Professor Diego L Outes. Mental suffering and its causes produced in him a deep impression and determined to devote his entire professional life to them. He served as a member of the staff of the Center for Biological Psychiatry and formed the Center for Research in Neurosciences, having joined the group of professionals who founded INECO since its inception.
He has been professor of Psychopharmacology Therapeutics and Advanced Course in Medical Psychiatrists of Braulio Moyano Hospital Unit and the Master of Neuropsychopharmacology of the Barceló University. He had the opportunity to improve the diagnosis and treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in the Bio-Behavioral Research Center in New York, with Professor Jose Anibal Yaryura Tobias, a pioneer in the field. With Professor Helmut Beckmann, who was president of Collegium Internationatale Neuropsychopharmacologicum (CINP) and the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP) he deepened the study of endogenous psychosis in Nervenklinik Universität Würzburg, Lower Franconia, Germany. He has been president of the Argentina Association of Biological Psychiatry and Argentina Mood Disorders Association (ASATHU). founding member of the International Society of Bipolar Disorders (ISBD). He has published several scientific papers in international journals level. It is part of the Working Group to develop guidelines Treatment of Depression and Bipolar World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry.
Currently he serves as scientific secretary of the Argentina Association of Psychiatrists and is the Vice President of the International Wernicke-Kleist Leonhard Gesselschaft. He is the Head of the Department of Psychiatry at INECO and Head of the Department of Psychiatry of the Institute of Neurosciences of the Favaloro Foundation Hospital Univeristario. He also is the Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health, Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Favaloro University.
